The drowned town of Old Dillon resting on the lakebed — weathered Main Street storefronts under deep blue water, light filtering down from the surface.
The story underneath

250 feet beneath the lake
sits a ghost town.

Old Dillon — more than 800 residents, the largest town in Summit County — sat where Denver Water needed a reservoir. In 1956, the town received notice: residents had until 1961 to be gone. Some jacked their houses up and rolled them to a new townsite up the hill. What was left behind was burned, the dam closed, and the basin filled.

Today, the original Main Street rests 250 feet underwater. The yacht club races sailboats over what used to be the schoolhouse. We pour drinks on the new shoreline, 9,017 feet above it.
